This special edition of the Reporter compiles excerpts of coverage prepared for Volume 26: 2007, intended to serve as a backgrounder on some of the issues that will come up at the second session of Preparatory Committee for 2010 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference. This backgrounder also previews material that will appear in the regular edition of Volume 26: 2007. The period of coverage in this special edition is between 1 January and 31 December 2007.

This edition contains partial coverage on select topics from the Reporter, related to:

• NPT Overview- This section provides basic information on implementation of the NPT and strengthening safeguards. It includes chronology entries covering the 2007 session of the NPT Preparatory Committee.
   
• Global Nuclear Fuel Cycle- This section provides an overview of active proposals related to controlling the nuclear fuel cycle and establishling assurance of supply mechanisms.
   
• Global Nuclear Disarmament- This section provides an overview of efforts to achieve nuclear disarmament. It includes chronology entries covering the 2007 session of the NPT Preparatory Committee. It also provides overviews of the nuclear forces and programs of the NPT nuclear weapon states.
   
• Middle East Nuclear Issues- This section covers efforts to establish a zone in the Middle East free of nuclear weapons and the dispute over Iran’s nuclear fuel cycle program. It includes chronology entries covering the 2007 session of the NPT Preparatory Committee. It also provides overviews of Iran's nuclear fuel cycle program and Israel's nuclear forces.
